Sick. Sicky. Sick. Sickerton. From Sickville. Ya, that's what I feel like right now. My nose feels like I'm Bozo the Clown and my cough sounds like I'm a pack-a-dayer for the last 30 years. There's nothing like a cold to make me realize how much I take my health for granted. The simple and mundane aspects of going about my day I reflect on fondly as I hug the couch and a box of tissues. I thought I'd share my "vitamin cocktail" I use to get me back on my feet within 24 hours.
At the first sign of a sniffle, reach for the following and lather, rinse, repeat throughout the day:
Zinc: helps in regulation of the cells production for the immune system which is CRUCIAL when you're body is fighting off something. Surround yourself with oats, almonds, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, ginger and pecans, and whole wheat grain, all great natural sources of zinc.
B6: Grab a bottle of this in pill form. It has a "wide variety of functions" as they say in regards to your immune system, it promotes lymphocyte (WHITE BLOOD CELLS!) production. Good sources? Beef, starchy vegetables, and non-citrus fruits like bananas and watermelon. YUM!
Garlic: I take this a bunch in pill form and well, you're welcome to eat it all you want in it's glorious entirety. Just make sure to crush it to release it's healing properties.
Here's to waking up on the RIGHT side of the bed tomorrow morning and eating some of this homemade chicken noodle soup!
